ROCK for RATNA!
‘Rock
for Ratna!’ is the first annual benefit
concert for the Ratna Prison Initiative, a
non-profit organization based in Boulder,
Colorado. The benefit concert will feature
acoustic performances by local and national
musicians in the intimate setting of the Rock &
Soul Café. Proceeds from this event will go
directly to expanding services for Ratna’s
clients.
The Ratna Prison Initiative is dedicated to
cultivating the fundamental sanity and dignity
in individuals and therefore in society at
large. Our primary work is teaching meditation
to prisoners as a psychological tool for
unraveling angry, confused states of mind, and
engendering peacefulness, clarity, and personal
responsibility. The Ratna Prison Initiative has
distributed thousands of books and other
meditation materials, and offered personal
instruction to around 1,700 prisoners in 42
states. It currently works with about 125
prisoners in Colorado alone. A 501(c) (3)
organization, it provides all its services for
free.

About the Artists:
Carey Colvin’s music is a dash of blues,
rock-edged pop, and pop-influenced contemporary
folk. Carey’s warm, expressive, and powerful
vocals “draw you into her world with grace,
humor, and panache” (Richard Fox, WCUW-FM,
Worcester, MA). She received the 1997 Wammie™
Award for Folk-Contemporary Female Vocalist and
the 2000 Wammie™ Award for Debut Recording of
the Year, The Distance Wall. In February 2003,
she was listed with artists to watch in
Washingtonian Magazine. Described as a
songwriter with an intelligent approach to her
lyrics, Carey has been a featured performer on
stages around the U.S, and has opened for many
acts, including CPR (Crosby, Pevar, and Raymond)
and Styx. She’s been a featured artist on radio
stations nationwide and is currently compiling
material for a new album.

Ibby Cline is a folksy rock 'n roll
singer-songwriter and professional musician
originally from southern California who calls
the mountains west of Denver and south of
Boulder home. She’s been playing and performing
her songs and those of her favorite artists for
many years. Some have described Ibby’s sound as
folk rock & roll with the occasional edge. Her
sound is uniquely her own. She plays regularly
in Boulder and Denver, has performed nationally,
and is recording tracks near Boulder and in Los
Angeles for her debut CD in fall 2008.

Lee Johnson’s music has many influences:
country, country rock, blues, bluegrass,
Americana, folk, and swing. It is an
irresistible recipe seasoned with an energetic,
soulful Colorado sound. Lee's years of playing
Colorado’s Front Range scene with various
line-ups began in 1989 and eventually led to
touring nationally as a singer/songwriter and
lead guitar/lap steel player for Runaway Truck
Ramp. He’s shared stages with some of the
nation’s top artists, including members of Hot
Rize, New Grass Revival, Leftover Salmon, The
String Cheese Incident, Tony Furtado, Yonder
Mountain String Band, Acoustic Syndicate, Derek
Trucks Band, and many others. Lee is currently
playing solo acoustic guitar, songwriting, and
pitching songs to artists in Nashville.
